Week Four - Writing Assignment

1)  I take photos because photos are nothing but a frozen moment, an impression, in time. And life itself is just an endless collection of moments and impressions. When the motivation is internal, we benefit from our photography by having a personal interest in the subject. It gives us a personal look into what we want to capture. When the motivation is external, we hope to capture something with a strong message, make those who will view it feel some sort of emotion to it. Motivation comes in many forms.

2) On a personal level, I am interested in the modern media's influence on our perception. I am also interested in landscapes and the natural beauty they hold. For what inspires me, I am greatly inspired by anything that holds artistic quality, color, aspects of the abstract, "fame", and " beauty". Depending on my mood and how i am feeling greatly affects what I look for in my photography.

Week Four - Four Objects

Far - With the background of the picture,
it gives depth to the picture.
And the pattern makes it more interesting.
Close - Enjoy the angle of the picture.

High - Angle of the picture and gleam
from lighting add more depth.
Low - Angle and position of the "tower"
makes it seem as if the camera was really
low and captured and extended the length.
Disordered - Let the holders fall over
and roll around, and thought way they
fell was interesting.
Balanced - Formation of holders
and shadows from the light
make it pieced together.
Light - Gleam of lit candles captured
with lights on in room, and a flash.
Dark - All lights off in room,
no flash, only light coming off lit candles.

David LaChapelle - Critique

To me, the image is very shock art. Most people may not recognize the symbolism of the picture, but it is of Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie from Sex and the City. In the series Carrie was known for her fashion choices, but with this picture by David LaChapelle, Carrie is shown to be on a crowded subway completely in focus while all the other passengers are blurred. For most people, the first thought upon viewing the image would think that it was completely rude but when connected to the Sex and the City series it makes more sense, she is selling herself, her fashion to make a statement. The lighting in the picture is coming from the front of Sarah Jessica Parker and from the subway lights on top give it multiple angles of light exposure. Over all i really enjoy the picture, and as a Sex and the City fan it does justice to Carrie.

Week 3 Assignment - Written Assignment

For my photo project I chose to use my Beautiful Darling scarf. It is extremely light-weight, thin and transparent. In the picture chosen it shows only the lower portion of the face. Many people may not know who Candy Darling is, but she was a Warhol Superstar and I am kind of obsessed with both of them.
The photo is simple but it catches the eye, because people have a tendency to try and match the face with the name and since only the lower half of the face is shown most people will never know who it is. What makes this photo interesting in my opinion is the angle it was captured, it adds depth and the folds in the scarf create layers.  It may not tell a story on its own, but I think the photo is beautiful because the pink on the lips, and the heart shaped beauty mark when compared to the blacks, whites, and grays on the rest of the scarf in the photo it adds personality.
I like how the photo turned out, but it has faults do to the material of the cloth and the potency of color on the scarf. And if I was able to improve the picture I would have incorporated the rest of the face. But to me, it is an interesting photo of someone I am intrigued by.

Week 3 Assignment

Used my Beautiful Darling scarf for this project. Was hoping for more out of this project but the lighting and space in my apartment is just horrid. Some of the pictures came out nice to my own personal interests.

1)   Yes, it felt uncomfortable to be photographed. I am extremely self-conscious and don’t like the way I am usually photographed. When we got to the part of taking a photograph of when we are doing whatever we would normally do is when I felt comfortable. By having my cellphone with me interacting with it in the picture I felt aware of my own actions but did not care I was being photographed because I was playing Solitaire.
2)

You can help someone get comfortable by just acting silly and getting the jitters out. Do a couple test shots in funny and imaginative positions, or do some jump – and – jacks. Make it fun and or a little exciting at first then transition into seriousness.
